Bakery Dashboard

dashboard mockup.jpg

Running a startup bakery involves a chaotic mix of inventory tracking, time-sensitive baking schedules, and customer communication. This project explores

a cross-platform dashboard ecosystem designed specifically for independent bakers to manage their kitchen operations seamlessly without breaking their workflow.

Research Question

How might I design a mobile and wearable dashboard interface that provides instant, hands-free accessibility to business data without disrupting a baker's physical workflow in the kitchen?

Solution

Creating a responsive dashboard layout utilizing modular widgets (Calendar, Alarms, Inventory Tracker, Messaging) optimized for rapid glanceability. It can be challenging for them to stop what they're in the middle of doing to check items in the back.

  • Contextual Hardware Design: Recognizing that bakers often have their hands full, the solution spans two form factors. The iPhone app serves as the central hub for deep management, while the Smartwatch app handles real-time alerts, quick timers, and brief inventory checks right on the user's wrist.

  • Minimized Cognitive Load: By prioritizing high-contrast UI elements and large tap targets, the dashboard minimizes cognitive load for a user working in a high-stress, fast-moving environment.

Personas

To anchor the design decisions, I developed a user persona: Sophie Jones, a 30-year-old independent baker in New York. While highly skilled in baking, she is a new business owner managing tight inventory and strict baking timelines.
